Melissa + Austin (An All American Love Story)

I was contacted by a great friend of Melissa's and she hired me to capture Melissa and Austins Engagement pictures. They had a specific idea of what they wanted, 1940's themed, combined with their military uniforms. They are both incredible members of the U.S. Army and it was such an honor not just capturing these moments but being in their presence. The sacrifice that service members and their families make every day is something I am still in awe of, even after several years of being a dependent myself.

I digress... they very sweetly answered questions for me. They totally touched my heart!

Names:

"Melissa and Austin"

How did you meet:

"We met by chance encounter on a summer evening at a Fayetteville Festival June 2015"

What do you love the most about each other:

Austin:
"Melissa has a seemingly endless amount of energy, enthusiasm and zeal for life that is unparalleled. Sometime's it's fueled by energy drinks when we try to accomplish too much but we always seem to add to our adventures. She is the best road trip / airport partner (when not sleeping) a guy could ask for and is always up for something new. She has written her own successful story and is unapologetically herself at all times, which just so happens to be my perfect match in a partner."
Melissa:
"What I love most about Austin is how I am free to be myself around him. He accepted me "as is". Never once did I have to pretend to be something that I wasn't . It was a breath of fresh air to meet a man with the same excitement for everything in life and sees the positive in everything. He is the most genuine, caring and selfless man I know. He is also the best cook I know. From steaks to cupcakes to apple pies. How lucky is the girl that has a man who loves to make her happy by making her the perfect meal"

When did you know he/she was the one?:

Austin: "There was never one moment that I knew Melissa was the one, but a culmination of a bunch of serendipitous events. We are compatible in so many ways that leads to incredible amounts of happiness."
Melissa:
"As I already thought Austin was to good to be true and of course wanted him to be the one the moment I met him, I honestly did not know the depth of it until I was deployed. We had only known each other a couple of months, we were pretty good at keeping in touch with each other. One evening I did not receive a message saying that he made it back safely from a night flying exercise. As not to seem pushy or needy, I did not call him. Instead I worried the entire day wondering if he was ok. The "what if's" sand in. What if something happened to him? What if I never saw him again? What if he never knew how much I was falling in love with him? It was then I knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that he was the man that I truly loved and wanted to spend the rest of my life with."

How did he pop the question?:

Melissa:
"Austin was visiting me on a TDY trip down in Florida this past August. Apparently he had the ring for quite some time, but was waiting for the perfect moment. The day before we were supposed to come home to NC, we went on a sunset Everglades tour. It was a private tour with just us 2 and the driver of the air boat. Austin had worked things out earlier with the owner to stop somewhere perfect to watch the sunset. It was at that moment, as we were watching the sky change that he reached into his backpack and pulled out a box. The driver of the boat tricked me into taking photos so it seemed natural for him to have his camera out. Austin then made it seem like it was a regular gift by having me unwrap it. Once the bow was untied, he took over from there. Surrounded by a couple of alligators, he got down on one knee and asked me if I would spend the rest of his sunsets with him. Of course I said yes :D"

What makes the other person happiest?:

Dual Answer:
"As cliche as it sounds, we are both happiest when we are together. Being dual active duty military, it can be hard sometimes to carve out quality time together. When we have it, we make sure not to waste a minute of it."

What is his|her spirit animal?:

Austin:
"Melissa's spirit animal would be a Unicorn. She is the most patient and happy ball of energy who always makes it a point to show she cares. She always sparkles, sometimes because of her natural radiance but mostly the different type of glitter products she likes to wear ;)"
Melissa:
"Austin's spirit animal would be a Golden Retriever. Very loyal to friends and family, always optimistic and charismatic."

Wesley + Jack

I got the immense pleasure of capturing Wesley and Jacks special day on Oct. 15 2016. I first spoke with Wesley just a few short weeks before her wedding when a good friend of ours and my second shooter for the day, connected us when her wedding plans changed.

You could tell automatically what an amazing person she was and how in love her and Jack were. It can be daunting walking into someones wedding day never having met them in person  but I was welcomed with open arms!

The love and support of the two families were immense and I cant wait to see what the future holds for Wesley and Jack.

Enjoy a few sneak peeks!

Babb|Bernatz Wedding (10.6.16)

Hurricane Matthew tried its hardest to dampen this wedding day. Thankfully due to amazing people and family members the couple, my family, were able to move the wedding date up a day. We still got a little damp during the ceremony but all in all, it was a brilliant move that worked out perfectly.

The groom, is my cousin Lathan and is like a brother to me. Thank goodness he brought Kaitlyn into my life :D and of course his own, lol. They are so completely in love but still such a real couple. She is a brilliant mother to Finley, Lathan's daughter and such a beautiful soul.

Enjoy a sneak peek of the getting ready portion of this wedding.

How did he propose?: On top of the Empire State Building.

If you could pick one moment that stands out to you as the best on your wedding day, what would it be?: When the doors opened, and I saw James standing up there next to Pastor Phil, I couldn't help it. I just started crying.

Describe any special traditions, personal mementos, or helpful friends/family members who played a sentimental role in your wedding planning or wedding day.: Stephanie helped me a ton with my wedding planning. James also, surprisingly enough, was a huge help as well.

What made you choose your venue(s) for your wedding day?: I picked it before we even got engaged. As soon as we did, we went to go look at it and I immediately knew. I didn't even look anywhere else.

What was your First Dance song? Is there a special story behind it?: All of me by John legend.

What was one wedding planning decision that proved invaluable?: Having a coordinator. She seriously was amazing through the whole thing. It definitely wouldn't have been as smooth without her.
